Sailors, while visiting the island of Hvar, can also enjoy mooring in secluded coves. Still, it is highly recommended to moor in a safe and well protected harbour or a marina over the night. The south coast of the island is particularly inhospitable to sailors and there are no coves advisable for mooring. The only shelter form the winds on this area can be found in deep coves of the islands of Šćedro, Mostir and Lovišće. The only difficulties in these coves can be caused by strong north-eastern wind called bura. In such case, a secure shelter would be the western extension of the cove of Lovišće or the coves on the southern side of the islands of Šćedro, Čarljeni and Borova lučica. (The coves Čarljeni and Borova lučica leave your boat unprotected in case of southern winds.)
Over the day mooring is possible in the coves Smarska, Kozja, Mrtinovik on the southern side of the island or in the coves Pokrvenik, Vela Stiniva, Žukova, Tiha and Stiniva on the northern side of the island. Yet, it is not recommended mooring there over the night, so after enjoying solitude and picturesque landscapes of the secluded coves of Hvar we recommend spending the night in a harbour or a marina on the island.
